Barry S Sternlicht

Barry S. Sternlicht is Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group, a private alternative investment firm he founded in 1991, focused on global real estate. He also serves as Chairman and CEO of Starwood Property Trust (NYSE: STWD), a leading diversified finance company. Over the past 33 years, he has structured investments exceeding $260 billion in asset value across residential, hotel, office, industrial, and retail sectors. Starwood Capital currently manages around $115 billion in assets and employs approximately 7,000 people worldwide.

From 1995 to 2005, Sternlicht was Chairman and CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, where he built it into one of the world’s top hotel companies, creating brands like W Hotels and expanding St. Regis globally. In 2008, he launched SH Group (now Starwood Hotels), which owns and manages the 1 Hotels, Baccarat Hotels, and Treehouse Hotels brands.

Sternlicht has received numerous awards, including PERE’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Cornell Icon of the Industry Award, and multiple honors from JDRF. He currently serves on the boards of Estée Lauder, The Robin Hood Foundation, and Americans for the Arts, among others. He holds a B.A. from Brown University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
