I. Basics

Cove Street Capital, LLC (CSC) is a Los Angeles area, SEC-registered investment adviser founded in 2011 by veteran value investor Jeffrey Bronchick, CFA. Cove Street Capital manages assets for a global mix of institutions, foundations, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals through CSC Partners LP and separately managed accounts.

Cove Street Capital emphasizes deep fundamental research, a repeatable investment process, and a culture of continuous improvement. The firm is 100% employee-owned and independent, focused on being partners—not clients—and prioritizing performance over asset gathering.

Jeffrey Bronchick

Mr. Bronchick co-founded Cove Street Capital in July 2011. He was the Chief Investment Officer and a lead principal of Reed Conner & Birdwell, LLC, a Los Angeles-based investment manager that he joined in 1989. For 22 years, Mr. Bronchick ran research-driven, concentrated, value-based strategies across all market capitalizations and led extensive credit work throughout the corporate capital structure.

He was one of the first columnists for TheStreet.com in the 1990s and later contributed to Grant’s Interest Rate Observer’s first online initiative. Prior to RCB, Mr. Bronchick worked in research and trading roles at Neuberger Berman, Bankers Trust, and First Boston. He attended the London School of Economics and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.

 Ben Claremon

Ben Claremon joined Cove Street Capital in 2011 as a research analyst and also serves as Co-Portfolio Manager for the Classic Value | Small Cap Plus strategy.

Previously, he worked as an equity analyst on both the long and short side for hedge funds Blue Ram Capital and Right Wall Capital in New York, and interned at West Coast Asset Management in Santa Barbara. Before entering the investment industry, he spent four years with a family-owned commercial real estate finance and management business.

Mr. Claremon was also the proprietor of the value investing blog The Inoculated Investor. He holds an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.

 Eugene Robin

Eugene Robin joined Cove Street Capital in 2011 as a research analyst from Proton Capital, a family office where he developed investment ideas in both public and private markets. He was also responsible for vetting and monitoring investments in the alternative asset space.

Prior to that, Mr. Robin worked at ViaSat as a software engineer. He holds an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a BA in Computer Science from UC San Diego.
