Said Wafic Rida

I. Basics

Wafic Rida Saïd is a prominent businessman and philanthropist, best known as the founding benefactor of the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, established in 1996. The school has since become a world-leading institution for business education and research.

He is also the founder of the Saïd Foundation, a non-political, non-sectarian charity supporting education and humanitarian efforts across Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and the UK. The Foundation provides scholarships to talented students and backs global health research initiatives.

Saïd began his career in banking at UBS in Geneva in 1963 before moving to London, where he opened renowned Middle Eastern restaurants. In the 1970s and 1980s, he played a pivotal role in Saudi Arabia’s development through large-scale construction projects.

In 1987, he established Saïd Holdings Limited, a global investment firm managing the Saïd family’s interests across private equity, real estate, and public markets.

Wafic Saïd is a recipient of the Sheldon Medal from Oxford University, a Foundation Fellow of Somerville College, and has been honored with the Ordre de Mérite from both Lebanon and Morocco.
